Development:

A group of South African surgeons have partnered with software programming and statistical expertise to develop a clinical notes system that has the ability to track, predict and analyse surgical outcomes - BSI Deep Health. Deep Health integrates seamlessly with existing practice management systems to put the quality and control of clinical data directly in the hands of the practicing clinician.

Value based care

In a landscape where data is king, clinicians are often at the mercy of funders and hospitals. BSI Deep Health empowers the clinician to take control of the process by creating and managing their own, clinically rich data that drives better patient outcomes. This richer clinical and outcomes data will enable specialists to have a much greater say in patient care and treatment decisions going forward. It gives surgeons something to take to the negotiating table with funders and hospitals. More importantly: it will ultimately benefit our patients if we continuously look at our patient outcomes, what influences those outcomes and strive to improve those outcomes.

The starting point to any real progress in health care is the   comprehensive measurement of outcomes. Outcomes should be measured for   each medical condition. Rather than focusing on any treatment option and the full   care cycle, from diagnostics to treatment to rehabilitation covering   both inpatient and outpatient care. Risk adjustment for individual   patient circumstances is also essential to compare outcomes across  patients and across time.
